Meet our doctors and nurse practitioners at The Kidz Docs!  Please take a few moments to learn about our skilled practitioners below.

At The Kidz Docs, we consider it both a great joy and responsibility to care for children.  Most of us are parents ourselves, so we strive to be understanding and available to the families we are privileged to serve.  We are honored you have chosen us as your child's primary medical provider and are confident that you will be pleased with the quality of care and service we can provide you and your family.

Our outstanding providers work hard to manage and maintain a professional, caring, and supportive environment for our patients in a timely manner.  Our providers are lifelong learners.  Not only have they received advanced medical training in pediatrics, they continually pursue ongoing education to stay abreast of the latest in child health care.

Sylvia Larkin, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Larkin was raised in Florida, but has lived in Alexandria since 1977. She had been married to her husband, Mike (retired from the Air Force, then worked for Lockheed-Martin, retired again, and passed away in 2014), for over forty-six years and they have three married children and now seven grandchildren.

After being a homemaker for eleven years, she attended George Mason University to finish her B.S. degree, and then went on to receive her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine.  She finished her internship and residency in pediatrics at Georgetown University Hospital.  At that time she joined Wineland, Wilmot, and May, MD's on Belle Haven Road, and she has continued to practice pediatrics at 1451 Belle Haven Road since that time.

Dr. Larkin has a special interest in special-needs children, foreign adoptees, and asthma. Her outside interests include her church work, cooking and sewing.


Jacqueline Arnold, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Arnold grew up in California and received her undergraduate degree from the University of California at San Diego.  She received her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at Georgetown University Hospital.

She has raised 4 children and is now enjoying her 5 grandchildren.  She lives in Alexandria, Virginia and has been married to Reid Adler for 30 years.  They share their home with a little pug named Camillo and several cats.  Dr. Arnold loves to garden and quilt.  She is very interested in behavior issues and teenagers.


William A. Russell, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Russell attended Princeton University where he received a B.A. in English and went on to the State University of New York at Binghamton for a master’s degree in English as well.  He worked for a short time as an English professor before going to medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine.  He then completed his pediatric residency at Georgetown University Hospital.  He has 2 adult children and lives in Alexandria with his wife Lynn.

Dr. Russell has been listed as a top pediatrician in Northern Virginia Magazine since 2013.  His clinical interests include asthma treatment and education.  In his spare time he enjoys gardening, photography, and bird watching.


Cynthia Shen, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Shen grew up locally in Gaithersburg, MD and received her undergraduate degree in materials science and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before deciding to switch gears and attend medical school at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.  She received the J. Edmund Bradley Award for Excellence in Pediatrics as a medical student and completed her pediatric residency at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children affiliated with Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Shen lives in Alexandria, VA with her 15 year old daughter and has a son who is a freshman in college.  She has sung with the Cathedral Choral Society as a second soprano since 1997 and has been a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels since 2006.  She also enjoys traveling, going to art museums and musical theater productions, and volunteering at her church.


Meghan Hulver, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Hulver is originally from Buffalo, NY.  She earned her B.A. in psychology from George Washington University in 2000 graduating magna cum laude.  She received her M.D. from the University of Buffalo and then went to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, R.I. affiliated with Brown University for her pediatric residency.  She received her board certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2007 and joined The Kidz Docs that same year.  She has been a member of the AAP in excellent standing.

Dr. Hulver is especially interested in childhood behavior, parenting concerns, anxiety, feeding disorders and growth. She also enjoys teen counseling and well visits. She lives in Oakton, VA with her extended family, their cat, Brabo, and their new black labrador puppy. She enjoys reading, Pilates, cooking and crafting. 



Emily Remus, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Remus is originally from Michigan.  She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine.  She completed her pediatric training at Thomas Jefferson University and duPont Hospital for Children and joined The Kidz Docs in 2009.  Emily enjoys spending time outdoors, playing music, cheering on the Fighting Irish, and spending time with family and friends.  She volunteers in her church and neighborhood communities.  She lives in Arlington, VA with her husband and two young children.



Milva McCallum, C.P.N.P.

Milva grew up in Maryland and received her BSN from Loma Linda University and worked as a nurse at their pediatric intensive care unit.  After moving back to the D.C. area she then worked at Johns Hopkins University Hospital as a pediatric intensive care nurse.  She trained as a nurse practitioner at the University of Maryland.  She now lives in Kensington, MD with her three children, Margaret, Matthew, and Meredith.

Milva has a special interest in breastfeeding, asthma, and newborn growth and development.  She and her family love the great outdoors.  They have a camp in Maine and travel there as often as they can.  She loves theater, foreign films, travel, and a good book.


Kathleen Beckman, C.P.N.P

Kathleen​ ​is​ ​a​ ​native​ ​Texan​ ​who​ ​has​ ​lived​ ​more than​ ​20​ ​years​ ​of​ ​her​ ​life​ ​overseas.​ ​ ​After earning​ ​her​ ​BSN​ ​from​ ​the​ ​University​ ​of​ ​Texas, she​ ​married​ ​an​ ​Army​ ​officer​ ​and​ ​served​ ​mostly military​ ​families​ ​in​ ​their​ ​medical​ ​centers​ ​as​ ​a pediatric​ intensive​ ​care​ ​nurse/pediatric​ ​clinic nurse​.  ​Upon returning​ ​to​ ​the​ ​D.C.​ ​area,​ ​Kathleen​ ​trained​ ​to become​ ​a​ ​pediatric​ ​nurse​ ​practitioner​ ​through Catholic​ ​University​ ​and​ ​has​ ​worked​ ​in​ ​private practice​ ​ever​ ​since.

Kathleen​ ​speaks​ ​French​ ​and​ ​Spanish​ ​and​ ​loves caring​ ​for​ ​our​ ​international​ ​families.​ ​She​ ​has special​ ​interests​ ​in​ ​developmental​ ​delays, asthma, newborns​ ​and​ ​breastfeeding.

Kathleen​ ​loves​ ​to​ ​read,​ ​hike,​ ​bike​ ​and​ ​share travel​ ​adventures​ ​with​ ​her​ ​family.​ ​She​ ​lives​ ​in Alexandria​ ​with​ ​her​ ​husband​ ​of​ ​33​ ​years,​ ​her golden​ ​retriever​ ​Salado​ ​and​ ​kitty​ ​Brazos.​ ​ ​She has​ ​three​ ​grown​ ​children.
